Pacquiao vs. Hatton: The Pacman and the Hitman

Today, the Filipino pride, Manny Pacquiao gets inside the boxing ring to face England's Ricky Hatton. This bout will for sure decrease traffic in the metro (like it always does), decrease crime rate (as previous statistics would show), increase pay per view earnings, increase both boxer's bank accounts, and all that. It is considered to be the megafight for 2009 and sports bars in the country are already bracing up for the event. Some cities and provinces have already put up big screens on gymnasiums open for public viewing. It seems that everyone had made their bets already (including my direct reports who have been trying to predict for a couple of days now who will come out victorious) and we are just waiting for a few more hours before another history is unraveled.

Until then, I could only hope Martin Nievera who will sing the Philippine National Anthem in MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada will bring good luck to our country's pride.
Pacquiao is real, media or no media, the belts that hang on his waist, and the worship in the eyes of the world is a fact of history. He cannot lose against Hatton today, his fate is tied too closely with that of this country. If he loses, this hero will be the man who will have lost it for the Philippines. It is only today I’ve wondered how it must be to be Manny Pacquiao. When he walks into the MGM Grand Arena today, with his people screaming themselves hoarse in his name, I wonder if he ever feels that he is drowning in other people’s dreams. -Pat Evangelista

8:08AM As of this writing, the undercard fight between Bernabe Concepcion of the Philippines and Yogli Herrera of Colombia is over already with Concepcion winning the match.

11:45AM Pacquaio wins the match! (A left hook to the jaw sends Hatton to the floor. Hatton was on the floor for a time after Pacquiao sends him for the second time to the floor.)
