I could not find a more catchy title other than what I chose. Hehe! Anyway, this article is mainly about when it is the right time to toss the make up and to discontinue using them. I am sure that the beauty bloggers out there already know this information I am about to post and may have some more stuff to share but the target readers of this post are those who are still left in a cloud of questions...
Here is a guideline:
Foundation: 3-6 months
Concealer: Wand applicator concealers should be tossed within 6 months since they’re likely to grow bacteria. Stick, twist-up tubes, or compact concealers can last up to 12 months, especially if you use a makeup brush to apply the product.
Pressed Powder Cosmetics: Facial powder, blush and eyeshadow should be thrown out after one year. If you get an eye infection, however, you’ll have to toss out any eyeshadow you’ve used, to avoid re-infecting yourself.
Lip Gloss and Lipstick: 1 year
Mascara: You should always replace mascara after 3 months. And toss it immediately if it becomes dry, or you develop an eye infection. Remember: Never, ever share mascara! My rule of thumb as always: this is the only product that I do not share with anyone even with my little sister.
Eye and Lip Pencils: If you sharpen them every few days, makeup pencils can last a year or longer. It’s time to trash them when they become dry, crumbly, and hard to apply.
All-natural Cosmetics: If you are using natural cosmetics, these should be thrown out sooner. Regular cosmetics contain ingredients that do help prolong shelf life. But of course natural cosmetics do not. Please check with your favorite natural store for the information on the cosmetics you love.
NOTE: Immediately toss the product out if there is a change of color, texture,
or consistency; if the ingredients settle or separate; or if an odor develops.
Oils and bacteria get trapped in the bristles of the brushes. Wash natural-bristled brushes once a month, and synthetic brushes three to four times a month. Lay the brushes flat to dry so that the bristles don't break, and to maintain the shape of the brushes. There are brush cleansers out there, but you can also use mild soap. According to a blog entry I've read, dishwashing soap works for her brushes. I may have to try that over the weekend because it's brush cleaning time once again. I used shampoo once and the bristles became so soft, I had to toss the Elf brushes I got. Sigh! Well, I guess whatever works but if you take good care of your brushes, I'm sure they will last longer than any of your make-up in your containers or train cases.

So many people know and are told when they should throw out their makeup, but I bet you that there are MANY people out there who don't toss out their expired makeup.
