This post is long overdue, four days overdue already. I had dinner with Jonah and Kristine at the Spirals in Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila. The food was yummy like it has always been. I stayed there for a week about 2 years ago and upon check out I figured I have put on at least ten pounds.
Anyway here are some pictures (try not to look at the food too long, you might drool buckets):
Anyway here are some pictures (try not to look at the food too long, you might drool buckets):
The wide array of wines and cheeses. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have brie and Plateau de Herve. Brie is the best known French cheese and has a nickname "The Queen of Cheeses". Several hundred years ago, Brie was one of the tributes which had to be paid to the French kings. In France, Brie is very different from the cheese exported to the United States. "Real" French Brie is unstabilized and the flavor is complex when the surface turns slightly brown. Plateau de Herve is a creamery, washed-rind cheese made from cow's milk. The lightly pressed cheese has a pale yellow interior with a creamy consistency. The maturation period is from two to three months.I am not really a wine girl so no wine for me that night,no not even a drop.
Here is the big bucket (I don't know the right term) of New Zealand greenshell mussels, crabs, prawns/shrimps/oysters. The oysters were just shacked fresh and the rest were blanched and beautifully arranged on a bed of shaved ice. There was also an ice carving in the middle but I wasn't able to take a picture of it. I was too busy ogling at what I saw.
Lots and lots of seafood. It was seafood heaven...
Here are the cold cuts. I was looking for smoked turkey but couldn't find any. Le sigh!
French breads, wheat breads, all of them in this beautiful display.
Here's a pic of one of the chefs and his masterful creation of paella. Jonah was in tears (literally). It was arranged with so much care and artistry. I didn't wanna eat it but I gave in. I had two spoonfulls and it was "the" best paella ever.
Here are some Korean food...I forgot to note the names.
And here's another chef in the peking duck carving station.
And how about this for dessert? Well, dessert + pizza. I couldn't resist going for seconds. The pizza is to die for and it is the best pizza I have ever tasted. It was totally yummy especially the one with olives and capers. Ahhhh! E 'molto deliziosi! I could not forget the mooncake until now. I want some more...Sofitel offers 50% discount to groups of 4 diners every Mondays and Tuesdays until the end of August. Price is Php1,121.00/person net of tax. If you dine with less than four people present, each of you will pay the full price of Php2,242 each. By the way, included in the buffet is bottomless hot tea or coffee. If you decide to order soda, be prepared to shell out Php195/can.
The price may be steep but it was all worth it. Good friends, good food, happy tummies! Make sure to call in advance to reserve a table because the place gets packed.
