As I am busy pondering on my next career move, Barbie has finally decided to have a new career. She beat me huh?
Well, kidding aside Mattel has unveiled Barbie's new career a couple of days ago (2/12/2010) - news anchor and computer engineer. Being a news anchor and computer engineer will be Barbie's latest addition to her growing resume and will be positioned on the 125th and 126th spot respectively. These dolls are part of Barbie’s I Can Be doll series.
This is the first time that Barbie's career was decided on by voters. More than 500,000 votes were cast. The popular vote went to Computer Engineer Barbie, who will be launched in the fall of 2010 looking "geek chic" in a binary code-patterned T-shirt, pink-framed glasses, a pink laptop (yay to that) and a Bluetooth earpiece as well as a smartphone. News Anchor Barbie followed in on second place, who will also go on sale in late 2010 wearing a pink suit with black accents and carrying a news folder, camera and microphone emblazoned with her initials "B".
Computer Engineer Barbie was designed with the help of the Society of Women Engineers, who hope she will inspire young women to enter the profession. Both News Anchor Barbie and Computer Engineer Barbie are available for pre-order at Mattel Shop.
