Goodbye For Now, BB Bold!

I wrote a post about my Blackberry dying on me and just this morning it finally died on me (the screen at least). I could not see anything on the screen anymore but I can still call my number and it will still ring. I went to Globe Telecoms (MOA) to have it fixed since it's still under warranty and I was told that it would take 3 months for it to get repaired because they will have to send it to Singapore. Ahhh, makes me wonder why Blackberry does not have a service center here in the Philippines yet. Hello Blackberry!!!

So there, the Globe employee checked my phone for scratches and stuff and noted everything. She noted every single little thing she observed. She gave me my battery (only after I told her I should not be surrendering it by the way) as well as the back cover and my mini-SD.

Then it suddenly dawned on me. I will not have my Blackerry for three loooooong months. So, there and then I decided to get a new line. I got approved immediately just by presenting an ID. Since I didn't bring any cash and I don't own some plastic (good for me), I just took home a new Blackberry Curve which I plan to give my sister when I get back my Bold. Not too bad a decision I guess. I won't fall off the face of the Blackberry world. I still belong!

So yeah, the waiting game has began...

Online Shopping with Reebonz Philippines

Most of my friends and readers know that I am an advocate of online shopping, if only for the ease and comfort it brings me. I like how easy I can just click cart what I want and proceed to check-out. I know not everyone is comfortable with online shopping but with the way how technology is fast changing our lives, we won't really have a choice but to adapt and go with the trends of the time.

I am also a fan of designer stuff but I don't splurge just as much, only when I really really want something (even if costs a full months salary or higher) then I would save up for it and give up anything I am spending with a drop of a hat. I love handbags and shoes among other things. So knowing that Reebonz (private sales, with exclusive members only deals) has finally come to the Philippine online shopping I just said a hearty hallelujah. Apparels, handbags, accessories and shoes will be available to us online buyers.

Events held on Reebonz are for members only and last typically between 2 to 3 days. Each event is held only for the stated period in the deal - once ended, it is gone for good and if you did not take advantage then you're left to pray for another deal as good as the previous one. Invite your best friends and only those you want in the Reebonz community. You decide who gets access to Reebonz. Invite a friend and get 10 credits when your friend joins and makes his/her first purchase.

Got Pimples?

I first heard about Proactiv Solution back in 2005. That was when I had an interview with Dell and I had to stay with some of my friends here in Makati. One of my friends used it and he was raving about it. He was so ecstatic how the product has cleared his pimples. He couldn't help but tell me about it too. I seriously considered to use it if I ever get pimples because his raves were just so real and believable. I could understand why. He has tried a bajillion of creams and potions and serums but only the Proactiv System was able to resolve his pimple issue. Much like the girl's problem in this video:

Back then, Proactiv Solution is only sold through infomercials on TV. It wasn't readily available to everyone. It wasn't even sold in pharmacies/drugstores. Thank you to Watsons and SM Department Stores for making it available to consumers on their shelves. And as always, Proactiv Solutions still offers a money-back guarantee. Please note that this refund is facilitated by the Customer Service hotline (02) 729-2222 (and not thru Watsons or SM branches). The suggested retail price:

30-day Kit: Php2,495
60-day Kit: Php3,995

If you want to try the product, just visit any Watsons and SM Department Stores. If you decide so, visit any Watsons or SM Department Store nationswide store on May 13 to 15 to get deals on their upcoming sale.

The whole line is a 3-step system, Benzoyl-Peroxide-based Renewing Cleanser, Alcohol-Free Revitalizing Toner, and Benzoyl-Peroxide Repairing Treatment, plus you get a free Refining Mask with the package.

I tell you, it's worth a try!

You Make Me Feel

Remember the post I wrote about me and the boyfriend's situation right now? Well, a couple of days ago, he flew to come see me. I can't say I am surprised because he has told me he was coming over as soon as he was able to book his flight but rather I am surprised because I did not expect that the three weeks we had together when he was here would mean that much for him to travel at least 8000 miles again to come see me. He originally planned to spend his vacation in Australia but he changed his mind. He would rather come be with me.

Waiting for his arrival was an ordeal. I was torn between expecting that he would really come yet ready for the fact that he might just be joking and that he was just playing tricks on me. Not that I don't trust him, I just felt like it would not hurt as much if I am ready for whatever that will happen. Although I was counting down, I still have it in my heart that anything can happen until he boards the plane and lands in NAIA.

He immediately sent me a message as soon as his flight landed. I couldn't believe it. I was both ecstatic and shocked. The man I have grown to love so much despite the distance is finally here. It has been almost five months since we last saw each other for real (we always Skype but that doesn't count of course). I never realized how much I really really missed him until I saw him walking towards me. "You lost so much weight" was all I was able to utter. I was close to tears...

Once again, it felt like he never left. It felt like we've never really spent five months apart. I can touch him again for real...

Reading forum articles at EdenFantasys has kept me sane for the most part. I learned that it is not only me that is in this situation and that a support group consisting of people who are in the same scenario would help me keep my hopes up and just stay positive. If you want to read more relationship stories you know where to go or maybe you finally decide to stop just being friends and generate some romance instead.

Who knows one of the situations would hit home for you too?

Movie Trailer - Busong

Here's a trailer of the Palawanon indigenous movie that I think should be worth to watch.

Busong is the indigenous Palawan concept of Fate or instant Karma. Nature reacts instantly to man's disrespect of nature and other men. Punay was born with wounds in her feet so that she cannot step on the earth. Her brother, Angkarang, carries her through a hammock, as he searches the changing landscape of Palawan in hoping to find a healer who can cure Punay. Different people help him carry his sister along the way- a woman looking for her husband, a fisherman who lost his boat and a young man who is searching for himself- and each one meets their fate. The first Palawanon indigenous film.

I am not sure if this is a finalist at the Cannes already... Does anybody know?

My BB is Dying and I Need Help

I think my Blackberry is dying and I am such in a state of distress right now. I have only been using this phone for a little over 5 months and all of a sudden I am experiencing a plethora of problems now. Sucks to be me eh?

I was having a talk with one of the supervisors at work this morning and I noticed that my screen turned to a pink display and then some vertical lines that filled almost three quarters of the screen. I was in a state of shock for a moment and then I tried to turn it off. It won't budge. I was for a moment clueless. I didn't have any choice but to do the hard reset. Hard reset is removing the battery while the phone is still on. Soft reset on the other hand is pressing Alt + Right Shift Button + Del button together. Anyway, when I turned it back on, I got a full display of white. I was almost in tears. I did not have any idea what to do from that point on. I asked a friend's help and he was able to let my screen appear. So I went back to my desk and stared at the phone until surprise of all surprises I was able to see my screen and I can make it work again. I can send/receive BBM, make a call or receive a call, and the works.

I then called Globe Technical Support for Blackberry and I was told that their technical support department is only for activations and troubleshooting of Blackberry services. I was then advised by the technical support agent to go to the nearest Globe store to have my phone checked physically. Since it was just 3AM the agents' solution to my problem is clearly not feasible. I then visited the Blackberry forums and found a thread about this problem. I was kind of relieved that I am not the only person with this problem. I guess that fact gave me a sense of peace that since I am not the first "victim" of this technology flaw, there could be a ready fix out there.

Here's an uploaded picture I got from the site and the description of the problem: (It's a Rogers phone so I think it is safe to assume that this is a phone sold and used in Canada)

And look at my screen: (I had an officemate take a picture of my screen and send it to me through BBM (Oh, what a convenience! That's why I love BBM. Hehe!)

This is my BB9700 which I named Roxie in a very sorry state. See how similar the display is to the picture above.
Vertical lines are no fun...
Here are more pictures of the sorry state of my phone:

I still have not figured out what to do with my phone. I tried sending an SOS through Twitter to @BlackberryHelp but so far no response until now. I guess I was ignored. I went to Globe and I was told that my problem needs a second level technical help so I have to give them my phone and I will be without a Blackberry for at least 3-4 weeks. Whaaaaaaat???  I also tried to reach out to my friend who's working in  a telco in Canada in the technical support department and he advised me what I could try to do. I did try but my laptop can't read the CD which came with my phone kit. Again, sucks to be me...

I could not imagine living without a Blackberry anymore. I am in dire need of help. Consider this a cry for help. Help!!!

Isn't there a Blackberry service center here in the country yet? Is this a known Blackberry Bold 9700 issue? Can somebody point me to the right people to get this fixed ASAP? My BBM life is suffering and it's my only simple guilty pleasure now. And oh, if this won't get fixed, I can only hope that RIM will choose my answer to Chuvaness' contest (winner gets to take home a Blackberry 9780). I can only pray, and wish and hope...

Dining Destination: Gilak by Hossein

I had an impromptu lunch date with my friend Olive last Saturday. She waited for me at Marc Jacobs in Greenbelt 5 and when I arrived she asked me what I wanted to eat. I told her I have been wanting to eat Persian food for the past week and she was curious about it too so we went to Gilak by Hossein in Greenbelt 3. It was a short walk but it was too hot outside. Ah, summer sun!

We sat in a corner table and ordered vegetable samosa, chicken kebab, beef kebab and saffron basmati rice. The food was nothing extraordinary. I wanted to order the fried brain but I thought it would scare Olive. Hehe! I am very experimental when it comes to food and I would try to eat anything once except maybe roaches and rats. Good thing those weren't served there. Else, I would be grossed out.

A samosa is a stuffed pastry and since we ordered the vegetable samosa the filling was all vegetable. It had potatoes and peas for sure. The other ingredients I wasn't able to determine. I thought the pastry was overcooked or something and I prefer the samosas at the Ziggurat in Burgos Street. Me and Olive had to had to stay for a little while longer to finish the four slices. If you haven't tried samosas, it is the Filipino version of "empanada".

I am no vegetarian so the idea of skewered chicken and beef excited me so much. I can’t imagine a world where I can’t savor grilled meat that is bursting with flavors. I also liked the sauce that came with it. We ordered humus and medium spicy chili sauce as well as sliced tomatoes on the side.

Our lunch was not that spectacular, nothing to rave about really. I was just happy to have seen Olive again and catch up with the stories of our lives and was able to satiate my Persian food craving at the same time. We then headed to Forever 21 to shop but that's another story. After shopping, I went to get some waxing done (oh yeah, that's another story).

Hope you all have a good week ahead...

Globe Launched 4G Mobile

Even if Globe does not really quite know how to value their loyal customers (taking into account my own experience with their loyalty program), I still am happy that I am part of a network that always is ahead for technological advancements.

Here's a write-up from Manila Bulletin Online about the launching of the 4G mobile written by Emmie V. Abadilla:

MANILA, Philippines -- Globe Telecom yesterday commercially launched its fourth generation (4G) mobile technology in the Philippines to provide subscribers with fully mobile high speed broadband access.

As the country’s 4G pioneer, with one of the largest WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) deployments in Southeast Asia, Globe has already made 4G available in over 1,500 sites in nearly 60 provinces across the Philippines, covering 365 cities, including Manila, Caloocan, Cainta, Antipolo, Taytay, Plaridel, Cabanatuan, Dasmariñas, Bacoor, Imus, Tanza, Calamba, Batangas City, Cebu City, Cagayan De Oro, and Zamboanga.

To date, Globe 4G mobile technology has been deployed across Metro Manila to cover Marikina, Quezon City, Makati, Pasay, Las Piñas, Taguig and the City of Manila. By end-2011, Globe expects to increase its 4G presence dramatically with continued expansion planned into 2012.

“With the uptake in broadband both on mobile and through other devices, customers want faster broadband in more places,” according to President and CEO Ernest Cu. Hence, “Globe continuously improves its network infrastructure to meet the demand for quality services.”

In 2009, the carrier was the first to launch 4G through its WiMax network. “Today, we extend our leadership by taking 4G mobile. With our high speed broadband rollout, Globe will continue to lead in customer experience by giving our subscribers better, faster and more reliable broadband connections on their phone, laptop, PC or tablet.”

The first phase of the roll-out uses the global standard HSPA+ or Evolved High-Speed Packet Access to complement Globe’s existing 4G WiMAX network.

HSPA+ is a 4G wireless, mobile, high speed broadband technology that allows for peak download speeds of up to 21 Mbps, upgradable to 84Mbps.

Subscribers can experience high peak rates, improved ‘always-on experience,’ better multimedia upload, high-speed web browsing and faster streaming and downloads. They can browse at an average speed of 4-6 Mbps with even faster peak speeds. HSPA+ is the chosen mobile 4G standard for other carriers globally including AT&T and T-mobile in the US.

Globe will complement its 4G launch with a suite of new multimedia services, 4G devices and offers for customers.

Samsung Smart TV: The App-filled Life

Here’s how my typical day might look like with all my Samsung apps (that is it I win the TV):

11:30PM – Yes, I work in the call center industry and that would explain this unholy hour of waking up. I roll out of bed and check my financial portfolio’s performance by launching the YFinance app. Oh geez, I don't even have to wait for the morning paper to check how well or bad did my stocks perform.

12:00AM – Check the latest news while having my hot green tea and cereal.  It’s easy to stay informed with the USAtoday app. I work and deal with North American customers so knowing what is happening in their neck of the woods is pretty much essential. I would also check the AccuWeather app before heading out so I can relate with the clients and customers at work.

12:30AM – Catch up with my Twitter feeds using the Twitter app, Facebook app and Google Talk app.

10:00AM – Home at last! While resting, I would log-in to my Skype app so I can keep in touch with someone special who about 8000 miles away from me. It would be a welcome stress reliever to see his face and hear his voice. While chatting, I will log-on to the ESPN app so we can talk about his favorite football team.

11:00AM – Use the Sudoku app or Texas Hold 'Em app to exercise my brain some more before resting. I would also revisit my stocks using YFinance app to check for any progress or market declines. Oh how convenient! I will also load the Netflix app and Blockbuster app to check for some movies that I might want to watch before bedtime.

11:30AM – While taking a shower before bedtime, I will use the Pandora app to listen to soothing songs to relax me. I will also run the

12:30PM – After my quick shower and while drying my hair, I will use the browser to check the blogs I follow and of course update my blog too. This is one of the things that I never miss to do in my 24 hours.

1:00PM – After satiating my blog fix, I would then watch maybe a movie to help me doze off through Blockbuster app

2:30PM – Time to head to bed. But before doing so, I have to update my Twitter app and Facebook app again.

And that is a day in the life of this miss using my favorite Samsung Smart TV apps. Of course, there are other apps available out there. You just need to choose what suits you and what would make your life more enjoyable with the help of the latest in technology. With Samsung Smart TV, I can do all that!

The Oatmeal: What I Think Obama Is Meeting With Jobs, Schmidt, and Zuckerberg About

This is a post from

Last February 17, Obama met with Steve Jobs, Eric Schmidt, and Mark Zuckerberg. There's been a lot of speculation about what they're going to discuss. Here's what I think:

Hilarious!!! :-)

RIP AJ Perez (February 17, 1993 - April 17, 2011)

I woke up early because I planned to go to the gym and before I got up I checked my Twitter feeds and there I found out that AJ Perez was pronounced DOA (dead on arrival) at a hospital/clinic in Paniqui, Tarlac (Luzon) around 12:20AM. He died after sustaining multiple head injuries after his car crashed on a bus and a truck in Tarlac province as he headed home from a show in Dagupan City for the Bangus Festival. AJ Perez was with his father, a driver and a bodyguard during the mishap and he was the lone fatality.

His last tweet—which was posted around 11PM read, "On the way home already from Dagupan.Long drive ahead.. Thanks to everybody who watched...". They were on their way back to Manila as he will still to catch the airing of his show ASAP Rocks.

Every time, I hear stories of road accidents, all the memories of Brandon flashes back. This news about AJ saddened me and I can only feel the grief of the loved ones he left. There's nothing like accidental death. There's nothing like not being able to say goodbye at least. My heart goes out to his family especially to his mom and dad.

RIP Antonello Joseph Sarte Perez (February 17, 1993 - April 17, 2011). AJ, this song is for you:
