On A Bed Of Pineapples

12:01 AM

I have passed by the vast pineapple plantation of Dole Philippines in Polomolok, South Cotabato many times possibly even a hundred times. I have seen it from the sky and I have admired the expanse of the plantation. When I went home last month, I finally had the chance to get out of the car and walk the plantation. It was surreal!

The pineapple plantation is situated at the base of Mt. Matutum and spans around 12,000 hectares and is considered to be the largest pineapple plantation in the country.

Dole Philippines Incorporated started operations on June 24, 1963 with the establishment of Dolefil as the first Philippine division. Dolefil is a prime producer and exporter of fresh and canned pineapples. The Dolefil plantation sits at the foot of the majestic Mt. Matutum in Polomolok, South Cotabato - a place which boasts of its rich, volcanic soils ideal for pineapple cultivation. The arrival of Dolefil turned Polomolok from a sixth class to a first class municipality almost at once.
